Making intelligent, elasticated, textiles fashionable and comfortable to wear

Smart fabrics that link to computers and phones are not only the way of the future – but are already here in prototype - both for health measurements (ECG, EMG etc.) and as a human-machine interfaces to your PC or mobile network.  But they need to be both fashionable and comfortable to wear and both of these depend critically on the fabric's ability to breathe (technically known as vapour permeability).

There are two main methods to measure vapour permeability – one follows the ISO standard (15496:2004) but can take several weeks for a single measurement, the other is to use a modern instrumental measurement system which can take as little as 30 minutes for the same precision.  Versaperm produces both options.

The digital equipment is easy to use and requires only minimal training to give results that are accurate in the Parts Per Million (PPM) to PPB ranges.  It can also control environmental conditions such as humidity, temperature, diurnal and other cycles.

The equipment can test multi-layer fabrics as well as several samples or finished products at the same time.

Versaperm equipment's highly innovative design allows customised production for the same cost as a regular, standard meter.  It can be used for a huge range of materials and all non-prohibited gasses – including water vapour, oxygen, helium, nitrogen, CO2 and hydrocarbons.  It can also measure the overall permeability of textiles, laminates, coatings and even some complete garments
